Late April Update -
Well, now that I've returned from the annual steelhead trip and gotten the
tropics out of my system for the winter, I'm back at the bench working hard
to get everyone's rods and blanks finished up. I put up a photo
log of our trip for those of you who would like to see what early season
steelhead fishing can be like in Alaska. Click
here for the journey.
As usual, I'm a little
behind - taking fishing vacations seems to do that - so please excuse
a possible week or two delay in receiving your orders while I try to get
caught up over the next month or two. I know we are coming up on
fishing season so I will do my best to keep close to our promised schedule.
I again raised my prices a little bit for the second and hopefully last time
for a while. Prices for materials and shipping have gone up noticeably in the past half year,
and as I'm now getting a good feel for what full time rodmaking entails, I
feel the increase is necessary both to keep making the best rods I can for
you, and to be able to dedicate enough time to do it exclusively. I
also bumped up my deposit on rods and blanks from $100 to $200 for the same
reasons.
Also check out the new Saltwater Series of rods.
I recently designed this series of heavier rods to be as saltwater safe and
corrosion resistant as possible. I have a number of tapers from 7wt up
that are particularly well suited for saltwater fishing, and have recently
come up with a very nice 9' 8/9wt 3/2 quad taper that is a real cannon and
is very well suited to longer casts and bigger fish. If you have ever
wanted to land a bonefish, redfish or any other blue water species on
bamboo, get in touch.
I am planning on spending a few days in May at my cabin enjoying the spring
weather and fishing for early season rainbow. Besides that, I'll be in
the shop pretty much all the time, so if you'd like to get in touch or chat,
feel free to shoot me an email or give me a call anytime.
I will be attending the Metolius Bamboo Fair in Camp Sherman in late
July, so if you are in the area or feel like making the journey to Oregon
for a few days of talking and casting bamboo, I'd love to see you there.
